Profile Picture of Ronan O'Flaherty

Ronan O'Flaherty is the lead consultant for all cultural heritage projects with Crane Bag Consulting (est. 2007). Ronan is a graduate of UCD with a PhD in Archaeology and research interests in Irish history and folklore. He is a former CEO of the Discovery Programme (the state archaeological research institute) and has held senior positions in a number of Government Departments, leading marketing and development portfolios, as well as running multi-million euro capital investment schemes and heading up the Irish Forest Service. He resumed a position in the public service on a temporary basis in 2014 to guide the design, negotiation and roll-out of key components of Ireland's Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, including GLAS, the €1.4bn agri-environment scheme. He returned to heritage consultancy in 2016 but remains contracted to design and lead a series of multi million euro environmental and heritage projects for the Department of Agriculture. Ronan has published and lectured widely at home and abroad and was adviser and key contributor to RTE's award-winning mini-series, Secrets of the Irish landscape, and for RTE's latest venture in this area, Creedon's Epic East, a four-part series on Ireland's Ancient East which broadcast over Summer 2016. He is a member of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, the Irish Management Consultants' Association, and EXARC – the international association of experimental archaeology institutes and researchers. He is a Director of the Irish National Heritage Park, Chair of the Vinegar Hill Research Project and external examiner at Carlow IT for its degree courses in Culture and Heritage, and Irish History.

Profile Picture of Tadg O'Flaherty

Tadg O'Flaherty is an environmental scientist with over 35 years experience in his field. He is a zoology graduate of UCD, with several post graduate qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering and Business. He acts as a senior environmental specialist to Ove Arup and also directs his own environmental consultancy company, Sustech Ltd., whose client base includes all of the major pharmaceutical, food groups and electronics industry. The principle espoused by Sustech is Sustainable Development through Technology. For twenty years he acted as Ireland's technical representative to the EU on matters relating to water pollution, toxicity and waste control and the application of low waste technologies and energy efficiency in environmental control. His particular expertise lies in the interface of industry with the environment, while as a naturalist he maintains a deep curiosity about Ireland's native wildlife, habitats and broader ecology.

Profile Picture of Niamh NicSuibhne

Niamh NicSuibhne studied languages and linguistics at DCU and UCD. Educated through Irish, she is interested in the role of language and communication in defining national heritage. Her business background lies in operations, financial control and legislation.

Crane Bag Consulting also maintains a panel of experts with specific skills that it can call on as required. These include areas such as traditional crafts, woodland development, ecology, heritage events and re-enactment.
